Isaac has been downgraded to a tropical storm but is still dropping heavy rains on the Gulf states and cause many to lose power.
Hurricane Isaac made landfall during the overnight hours. At 9am CDT this morning, Isaac showed some weakening, but is still a Category 1 hurricane.
Hurricane Isaac is expected to make landfall as a category 1 hurricane in a few short hours this evening on the Gulf Coast.
Hurricane Isaac is currently predicted to make landfall near New Orleans on or just before the 7-year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. However, global security consulting firm IEM estimates the results will be far different.
As Hurricane Isaac approaches the Gulf Coast today, the track Isaac is taking is eerily similar to the track Katrina took seven years ago at this same time.
As of 11:20am CDT Tropical Storm Isaac has achieved hurricane status with wind speeds of up to 75 mph or more.
Tropical Storm Isaac is expected to become a Category 1 or 2 hurricane before reaching the northern Gulf Coast late Tuesday evening (August 28).
