Emergency Management

WHAT WE DO

IEM’s team of nationally recognized emergency management experts—former FEMA executives and senior leaders and directors of state, city, and county emergency management agencies—have the knowledge and experience to help you prepare for, respond to, recover from, and mitigate against disaster. Understanding the complexities of today’s disasters and crises—whether natural or human-caused—is top of mind for our team. IEM stands ready to support your agency’s or company’s efforts to save lives and protect property.

PREPAREDNESS

Well before an emergency or disaster event, IEM works with state, local, tribal, and territorial agencies to exercise all-hazard events that test agency capabilities to pinpoint strong suits and identify areas for improvement. Since 1993, IEM has successfully supported over 680 exercise events, with more than 200 just in the past five years. Our exercise team understands varying perspectives—fire, EMS and rescue, law enforcement and emergency management, public safety and public health—ensuring concerns of all participants and sectors are met, if not exceeded.

IEM’s exercise program applies a performance-based methodology that results in objective assessment of preparedness and provides specific recommendations for improvement through the development of an After-Action Review and Improvement Plan (AAR/IP) to breakdown necessary changes in procedures that could significantly improve a jurisdiction’s response to a future event.

RESPONSE

Even with adequate funding, jurisdictions may have limited personnel with the necessary experience or resources to properly plan, implement, and staff an EOC. When a disaster strikes, existing staff may be overwhelmed working exhaustive activation shifts—IEM is here to help.

Our team of emergency management leaders have provided rotational and surge staffing to civilian and military EOCs, including deployments in response to hurricanes Katrina, Rita, Gustav, Ike, Sandy, Irma, Maria, Laura, Sally, and many more.

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, IEM emergency managers deployed across the country to support EOCs from the onset. Today, we continue to support COVID-19 response efforts at the local and state level through vaccine distribution planning, logistics, and program management.

RECOVERY

Since 1985, IEM has helped our clients and partners reduce costs, increase efficiencies, improve decision making, and most importantly, resiliently rebuild. IEM helps communities identify and explore all funding options and resources to enable a robust community recovery. IEM delivers planning, technical assistance, and program support to communities in the days, weeks, and months following a disaster. Just as importantly, we help public officials, planners, and community members implement a long-term planning process to foster a disaster-resilient and economically stable community for the future. Our team of FEMA Public Assistance program specialists, and long-term recovery professionals possess the knowledge and experience to support manage your project from start to closeout.

MITIGATION

Now more than ever, communities need to ensure mitigation is implemented to better prepare for future extreme weather events that are becoming more prevalent. IEM stands ready to ensure you can maximize your mitigation funding to help reduce or eliminate hazards and threats in your local communities while ensuring compliance with 44 CFR Part 9, and incorporating the requirements of Executive Order (EO) 11988 and EO 11990. Let the IEM team help you maximize unprecedented levels of mitigation funding.
