In early January health researchers in China identified a new virus that was infecting dozens of people throughout Wuhan. The new virus, known as SARS-CoV-2 causes the Coronavirus disease 2019 or COVID-19.
Within weeks the virus spread throughout China and the world. Then on January 30, 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared a global health emergency, and on March 11, 2020, they declared coronavirus a pandemic.
We are learning more about the spread of COVID-19, the details of the disease, and its risks to the public on a daily basis.
