Retired Major General Richard Rowe Returns to IEM

RESEARCH TRIANGLE, NC, September 11, 2017 – Former IEM Vice President (VP) of Response and Defense, Major General (MG) (Retired) Richard J. Rowe, Jr., returns to IEM to serve as Acting Chief Operating Officer (COO). MG Rowe (Ret.) is a retired U.S. Army Major General, who served our nation over a 37-year career. As Acting COO, MG Rowe (Ret.) will oversee IEM’s day-to-day operations and will work in close partnership with Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and President Madhu Beriwal and Chief Financial Officer Dan Michael.

MG Rowe (Ret.) is a recognized leader in disaster response. He is joining IEM at a critical time to the country, as communities are dealing with historic storms. Applying Rowe’s expertise to IEM’s work in emergency preparedness and disaster recovery is more important than ever, as the company contributes to efforts to build a more resilient nation.

During his tenure with the U.S. Army, MG Rowe (Ret.) held senior leadership positions with U.S. Forces-Iraq, U.S. Northern Command (NORTHCOM), U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command, and the 82nd Airborne Division. MG Rowe (Ret.) directed the Iraq Training and Advisory Team for Operation Iraqi Freedom, mentoring the Minister of Interior and leading advisor teams and contractor police advisors. He also worked as NORTHCOM Director of Operations from 2004 to 2006 coordinating Department of Defense (DOD) response preparedness for major national disasters, including the 2004 Florida hurricanes as well as the 2005 Hurricanes Katrina, Rita, and Wilma.

MG Rowe (Ret.) served as the Commanding General for the U.S. Army Military District of Washington and the Joint Forced Headquarters of the National Capital Region (NCR). As Joint Force Commander, MG Rowe (Ret.) oversaw DOD support for national security events, including State of the Union addresses, Pope Benedict XVI’s visit, a presidential inauguration, and a G-20 conference.

MG Rowe (Ret.) has extensive leadership experience in interagency disaster and crisis action planning and in managing complex organizations and programs. Most recently, MG Rowe (Ret.) served as Senior VP of Army Programs at Burdeshaw Associates and as a consultant for leadership strategies. MG Rowe (Ret.) holds a Master’s of Science degree in Business Administration, a Master’s in Military Arts and Sciences, and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics. MG Rowe (Ret.) is based in IEM’s Arlington, VA, office.
