IEM Vice President of Homeland Security Now at Corporate Headquarters in Research Triangle
RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC, October 23, 2014 – Wayne C. Thomas, Vice President of International Homeland Security and Disaster Management for global security consulting firm IEM, has relocated to the company’s headquarters location in the Research Triangle. Prior to the move, Thomas worked from an IEM branch location in Atlanta, Georgia.
Mr. Thomas’s career spans 25 years of government and consulting experience, during which time he has increased public protection from some of the most dangerous technological and natural hazards faced by the nation. His leadership role with the State of Oregon ensured the safe destruction of the chemical weapons stockpile at the Umatilla Army Depot. Since joining IEM in 2002, Thomas has developed IEM’s homeland security and disaster management sector into a leading provider of consulting services to Federal, state, and local governments. He has led catastrophic response planning for some of the most vulnerable areas of the U.S. and has staffed and managed federal operations centers that responded to public health and terrorism emergencies, including Sudden Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS), anthrax, and smallpox. His recent support to the World Bank and projects in India have secured IEM’s position as a global leader in disaster management.
Thomas’ relocation continues a trend of the Research Triangle area becoming a hub for homeland security and disaster management professionals, organizations, and research. In addition to IEM, the area is home to The Institute for Homeland Security Solutions; The UNC Chapel Hill Center of Excellence for the Study of Natural Disasters, Coastal Infrastructure, and Emergency Management; and The Triangle Center on Terrorism and Homeland Security.
