Dr. Carlos Ravelo

Senior Advisor

Dr. Carlos D. Ravelo, attorney and court interpreter/translator, brings to his position as Senior Advisor with IEM extensive experience in international relations and international law as a certified interpreter in numerous languages in fields such as homeland security, transportation, diplomatic relations, and the military. Dr. Ravelo holds court interpreting certifications from various entities in the United States and abroad, including from the states of New York, New Jersey, and California; U.S. State Department; Administrative Office for U.S. Courts; Los Angeles Superior Court; and Office of the Attorney General for the Dominican Republic, among others. He is currently an attorney in financial, civil, and administrative law in the Dominican Republic and provides conference, court, escort, and business interpreter services for U.S. federal and state courts and for military, financial, and environmental public and private sector entities.

Dr. Ravelo has provided conference interpreting services for over 2,000 summits and conferences, and workshops over the span of his 40-plus-year career. He has provided interpretation services in civil and criminal trials, administrative/medical/appellate hearings, and military, diplomatic, and business proceedings for organizations such as the United Nations, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), International Monetary Fund (IMF), INTERPOL, U. S. Agency for International Development (USAID), U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U. S. Coast Guard, U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM), U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), and U. S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Dr. Ravelo’s wide-ranging court interpreter experience has included positions with the Texas Workforce Commission, Gerber Corporation, and the Social Security Administration. He also served in the U.S. Navy from 1976 to 1980 as a military interpreter and as a medic and qualified medical interpreter in the U.S. Army prior to that.

In addition to his court interpreter work, Dr. Ravelo served as an instructor in the field of court interpreting for various institutions throughout his career, including the University of California at Los Angeles, the California Judicial Council, William Patterson University in New Jersey, the Dominican Bar Association and others.

Dr. Ravelo received his doctorate degree in law from the Universidad Central del Este in the Dominican Republic and his master’s degree in Criminal Justice from the Inter-American University in Puerto Rico.
