VERIFY: DC doesn’t have a FEMA vaccination site, did it cost the city doses?
WUSA 9 – Did D.C. miss out on COVID-19 vaccines because it does not have a FEMA mass vaccination site? According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the District ranks near the bottom of states and territories for the percentage of the population that has been vaccinated.

FEMA May Be Stretched Too Thin
NPR – The Federal Emergency Management Agency is helping the Biden administration administer COVID-19 vaccines and process unaccompanied minors at the border. But could the agency become stretched too thin? Playing a number of roles is nothing new for FEMA. But Elizabeth Zimmermann, [Senior Executive Advisor at IEM] who worked at the agency during the Obama administration, says it does pose a potential problem.
Inside Woodbridge’s new mass COVID-19 vaccination site, the lines keep moving
Inside NOVA – The logistics and administration are being handled by companies that are experienced at emergency management: AshBritt Logistics and Innovative Emergency Management [IEM]. Vaccinations are delivered in a large, climate-controlled building with minimal wait. Johnson said it should take just 20 minutes from entry in the building to receive your vaccination, which is by appointment only. There are 44 registration stations, several of which are bilingual English and Spanish. Johnson said for someone who speaks another language, they are ready to assist. There are four translation stations, which have bright green monitors where visitors can select a language to speak live with a translator, whether it’s American Sign Language, Arabic, Urdu or Vietnamese.

Virginia Mercury – State health officials say they’re working to reconfigure vaccine distribution to match geographic demand after a walk-in clinic in Danville, which has already moved into phase 1c, was swamped by out-of-towners.

WUSA9 – The federal agency has authority to do this in all disaster situations. However, it wasn’t given the go-ahead until this month.
FEMA reimbursing up to $9,000 for COVID burials
Daily Memphian – In guidance released Wednesday, March 24, the agency said it will pay up to $9,000 for verifiable expenses from one funeral or up to $35,500 to one applicant applying for multiple deaths.
Community Update on Vaccination Program
Miami’s Community News – As of this week, the State of Florida administered nearly 7 million vaccines, with nearly 5 million Floridians fully vaccinated. Those fully vaccinated have received either the 2-dose series vaccine from Moderna or Pfizer, or the 1-dose from Johnson & Johnson.
COVID vaccine: 200 shots available daily at new, no-appointment clinic in Fort Pierce
TC Palm – The new clinic is open daily to eligible Floridians with no appointment, but on a first-come, first-served basis until the daily allotment is gone.
