Disaster Recovery Expert Jon Mabry Joins IEM as VP
Mabry managed more than $4.6 billion in disbursals in exemplary disaster recovery programs
Research Triangle Park, NC, March 19, 2014 – Jon Mabry, a certified internal auditor who successfully managed the disbursal of more than $4.6 billion in federal grant funds after Hurricane Katrina, joins global security consulting firm IEM as Vice President of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Disaster Recovery. Mabry will specialize in CDBG disaster recovery initiatives administered federally through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
“Jon Mabry is the nation’s most experienced and most consulted manager of CDBG funds earmarked for housing and infrastructure recovery,” said Madhu Beriwal, IEM founder and Chief Executive Officer. “He has a proven track record and established relationships with HUD which reinforce IEM’s ability to assist any state in quick, accurate disbursement of recovery funds.”
Mabry was tapped in 2008 by Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour to manage that state’s block grant funds associated with long-term recovery and resiliency projects following Hurricane Katrina, specifically housing and public infrastructure programs.
With Mabry’s management, the State of Mississippi leveraged CDBG dollars to rebuild, repair or finance more than 40,000 homes, complete more than 200 public infrastructure projects and create internal controls which have helped keep Mississippi’s recovery fraud levels to less than 1/100th of one percent.
Mabry previously worked as a director of internal audit and in business development roles at several Fortune 10 companies, at one point managing a $6 billion sales segment.
Mabry’s private sector career includes stints at Alltel and GTE where he was a civilian contractor in charge of the President’s “red telephone” at the Pentagon. Prior to his public and private sector management experience, Mabry served four years in the U.S. Marine Corps.
“I’m very excited to be part of the IEM team,” Mabry said. “Madhu Beriwal has built a successful disaster management firm from the ground up. She and IEM are the American dream personified, and I’m proud and honored to be associated with her company.”
