Donald Renner Joins IEM as Vice President of Defense and Information Technology Solutions

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC, March 30, 2016 –Defense and Information Systems/Information Technology (IS/IT) expert Donald A. Renner II (Colonel, U.S. Army, Retired) has joined global security consulting firm IEM as Vice President of Defense and Information Technology Solutions. Based in IEM’s Washington, DC office, Renner will apply his extensive executive management, technical, and operational expertise to direct and expand IEM’s IT and defense business sectors, providing strategic command and control (C2) solutions that build on IEM’s experience in modeling and simulation, information operations, and cyber security.

Renner has 30 years of experience applying innovative technology solutions to complex challenges faced by U.S. Federal organizations. He provided these solutions through both a distinguished military career and through management and executive leadership positions in private industry. More than a decade of Renner’s career was spent assigned to the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He served as a key member of the Director’s Action Group and Deputy Division Chief for the J-5, Strategic Plans and Policy Directorate, and provided expertise in Network Centric Operations and Warfare (NCOW), Coalition Interoperability, and Cyber Warfare to the J-6, C4 Systems and Networks Directorate. During his career with the U.S. Army, he also led efforts for international interoperability, data standardization, modeling and simulation, and systems automation. He served as lead advisor to the Army’s Chief Information Officer (CIO/G-6) on modeling and simulation, and was a member of the strategic communications team for the development of the Army Enterprise Architecture.

Prior to joining IEM, Renner held executive management positions at L-3 Communications, CACI International, and OPNET Technologies. For clients ranging from U.S. Federal agencies to Fortune 100 companies, he has designed and delivered large-scale strategic software systems, established intelligent network and application performance management solutions, and provided cyber security expertise. Renner has notable experience in defining and delivering technology solutions for the U.S. Army; U.S. Air Force; U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) and U.S. Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM); and multiple defense agencies, including the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), and the National Geospatial Agency (NGA).  Renner is a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration (Management Information Systems and Finance) from the University of Illinois at Chicago.  He is also a graduate of the United States Army War College.
